Volunteer Recruitment
MembershipMembership in the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department starts with an application - background check - interview - physical examination (at the department's expense) - and performing satisfactorily on a physical agility test. Upon successful completion, you will be brought on to the Department as a Probationary Member. You remain in this status for one year while in training, attending drills, fire and rescue calls, meetings and other Department functions.
Training
Throughout your career as a Volunteer Firefighter, training will be your cornerstone. The Fire Department prides itself on providing you with professional instruction in fire attack methods, rescue, techniques, and personal safety - to name a few. You will also be encouraged to attend training provided outside the Department. The skills you acquire are yours and last a lifetime.
Teamwork
While training and acquired skills may be the cornerstone of the Department, teamwork is what holds the Emergency Response System together. The "Buddy System" has long been a part of the Fire Service - you don't go anywhere without your partner - you depend on each other - you function together.
Commitment
The commitment you make as a Volunteer Firefighter is not only to the Fire Department but also to the community. And this is a commitment that not only you but your family must agree upon. The hours are long - the work is dirty - and the situations are hazardous. Your greatest driving force will be your Pride. If you believe you have what it takes to meet the challenges of our business, we welcome you to join us. Visit Us: at 555 Washington Road, or contact the station at 412-531-5366
