CAREER POSITIONS

Career positions in the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department are supervisory level Company Officer positions requiring substantial fire service knowledge, skills, abilities and background. It entails skilled work that consists primarily of delivering emergency services to the residents of the community. Principally, these services are delivered in the areas of fire protection, rescue, hazardous materials and emergency medical procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mt. Lebanon Company Officer is a supervisory position and as such requires substantial prior fire service experience. The daily routine is very dynamic and may include such diversified activities as building inspection, public speaking, fire suppression, training, maintenance, hazardous material response, rescue, emergency medical response, apparatus operation, supervision of task groups, and strategic and tactical decision-making.

The work is performed under widely varying environmental conditions. The work may require strenuous exertion for extended periods of time. It is often done in emergency situations where death, trauma and/or property damage have occurred. At times the well being of the worker may be at risk. Because of the aforementioned, the work can be very stressful. Position may require firefighter to work overnight and weekend shifts of extended duration. Firefighter needs to make critical decisions under stressful conditions. Company Officer acts in supervisory capacity to volunteer firefighters.
